O2 Academy Sheffield Reopens February 2027: Tickets, The Pineapple Thief and What's Next

Published: 2026-09-11/Category: Guides

O2 Academy Sheffield is coming back. Academy Music Group has confirmed a February 2027 reopen at 37–43 Arundel Gate, Sheffield City Centre, S1 2PN, after the live room shut in September 2023.

This is the 2,350-cap stop promoters have been routing around for four years, and the first named show is already on sale. We have added a dedicated O2 Academy Sheffield venue hub so every new date lands in one place.

Why O2 Academy Sheffield closed

The Arundel Gate building closed in September 2023 because parts of the roof used reinforced autoclaved aerated concrete (RAAC), a lightweight material the Health and Safety Executive has warned can fail with little notice. Sheffield City Council then granted permission, in February 2025, for the old roof deck to be replaced with a new flat roof.

AMG has spent the downtime on more than a patch. The official reopen package includes:

  • a new roof
  • air conditioning in a room that never had a modern system
  • work on service areas in the main room and O2 Academy2
  • a new L-Acoustics K3 PA, installed with Adlib, plus lighting work with DiGiCo

Capacity stays in the same league as before: about 2,350 in the main room. The venue's own line is that they are hoisting the mirror ball again, a nod to the Roxy years as much as to the gig calendar.

AMG chief executive Liam Boylan called O2 Academy Sheffield an important venue in the region, and one promoters and artists have missed on UK routing. Divisional manager Justin Smith, who has been in the building since the 2008 Academy opening night, said the brief is simple: better kit for visiting production, and a better night for the people on the floor.

A short history of the Arundel Gate room

The site opened in 1968 as the Top Rank Suite. Over the decades it hosted The Police, The Clash, Joy Division and David Bowie, then spent the 1980s and 1990s as the Roxy Disco, the region's big dance night.

AMG took it on and reopened it in 2008. Opening week put Sheffield names back on the stage, Reverend & The Makers and The Human League among them, and the room became a standard UK tour stop. The Academy's own list of recent and classic bills includes The Prodigy, Blondie, Elbow, Kasabian, Self Esteem, The Streets, Bring Me The Horizon, The Killers, Wolf Alice, Stormzy, Milburn and The Black Keys.

One local footnote from the last run: The Prodigy opened their 2022 Fat Of The Land anniversary tour here across two nights, among the first shows after Keith Flint's death. That is the kind of routing the city has been missing.

We will keep city-centre listings and live music this week updated as the 2027 diary fills in. For tickets, use the event pages on Sheffield Scene.

First announcement: The Pineapple Thief, Saturday 6 March 2027

The first featured date on the new calendar is The Pineapple Thief: Far and Wide European Tour 2027 at O2 Academy Sheffield.

Date: Saturday 6 March 2027
Doors: 6:00pm
Venue: O2 Academy Sheffield, 37–43 Arundel Gate, S1 2PN
Tickets: general sale from 10am on Friday 11 September 2026, via Ticketmaster

Bruce Soord's progressive rock band are a proper sit-up-and-listen live act: dense arrangements, a heavy low end, and Gavin Harrison on drums in the current line-up. Far and Wide is the album this run is built around. The Sheffield show sits the night after London's O2 Shepherd's Bush Empire, which is exactly the kind of routing AMG said had a hole in it while Arundel Gate was dark.
