Crossed Wires Presents Jamie Bartlett
The Spiel
In his landmark Radio 4 series Everything is Fake (And Nobody Cares), the best-selling technology writer and podcaster Jamie Bartlett set out to understand how fakery became such a normal part of modern life – and why so many of us seem strangely unbothered by it. Assisted by his custom designed AI companion, Jimmy Botlett, Jamie unpacked why authenticity is losing ground, and plotted a path through recent history to explore the forces reshaping our sense of what’s real: from the scripted spectacle of 1980s wrestling to the emergence of “your truth” culture, the normalisation of cheating, and the rise of self-made podcast stars. As we rush into the AI era, Jamie Bartlett will be joined by Jimmy Botlett himself to discuss why fakery has taken hold, answer your questions, and more. Important note from Crossed Wires Festival: As tickets are free, people often request more than they need, so we have to issue more tickets than there are seats available to allow for this. Entry into the show is on a first come, first served basis, and is not guaranteed even with a reservation. Please arrive in good time.
