Light Asylum

LIGHT ASYLUM is the internationally revered techno-punk music project of vocalist, producer Shannon Funchess founded in Brooklyn, New York in 2007. Captivating audiences with cathartic performances, LIGHT ASYLUM emerged in 2009 at the forefront of a movement turned full blown revival of late 70’s to 90’s electronic music inspired by pioneers of Detroit techno, Belgian new beat, EBM, gothic rock, Chicago house, new wave and synth pop.Autumn of 2011 would herald a new gothic club anthem “Dark Allies” with Funchess emoting eternal life in her signature contralto singing, “Forever…and ever” on the debut ‘In Tension’ EP (Mexican Summer/Kemado Records). A debut full length S/T LP released the following spring aided in igniting the dark wave genre that coincided with the cold wave revival in NYC’s underground music scene. Funchess carried the torch above ground to iconic venues Radio City Music Hall, Koko, The Sydney Opera House, Moulin Rouge and Berghain. Summer 2025will mark the first release of LIGHT ASYLUM since 2012.
