The Street Is the Theatre poster at Crucible

The Spiel

Running time: around 2 hours and 30 minutes (including an interval) The streets of Sheffield carry a long history of collective voice—from steelworkers and trade union organising to anti-austerity marches and climate protests. This workshop invites you to step into that lineage and explore how public space becomes a stage for resistance, storytelling, and imagination.Through devising exercises and conversation, we’ll connect to stories that matter here, - local struggles, memories, and movements and use them as fuel for performance. We’ll then take our work outside, engaging directly with Sheffield’s streets, architecture, and everyday rhythms. Expect playful, low-stakes performance walks where we improvise with the environment and discover how place shapes meaning. This workshop is open to all levels, whether you’re a performer, activist, or simply curious about using creativity in public space.
